# 6.10 OS UPGRADE 6. INTERACTING WITH TONVERK Copy, paste, and clear commands are available on the NAMING screen. 6.8 CLASS COMPLIANT DEVICE Tonverk is a class-compliant device (also known as plug-and-play). It means it does not require any addi tional drivers to connect to your computer or other USB class-compliant hosts. Tonverk can, therefore, stream audio and MIDI directly over USB to and from supported computers, phones, and tablets. It opens up several exciting possibilities of what you can do with your device, for example, record audio from your device directly over USB in your DAW. 6.9 BACKING UP TONVERK It is always recommended to make regular backups of all your Tonverk data. To create backups and transfer files to and from your Elektron device to a computer, you should use the USB DISK MODE. 6.9.1 BACKING UP TONVERK DATA TO A COMPUTER 1. Connect a USB cable between the computer and one of Tonverk’s USB ports. 2. On the device, navigate to SETTINGS > USB DISK MODE, and then press [YES]. 3. On the popup window, press [YES], but be aware that device playback will stop. 4. Tonverk’s SD card should now show up in your computer as a USB device. Click the Tonverk USB device on the computer to access the SD card’s contents. 5. Copy the files and folders you want to back up from Tonverk’s SD card to the computer. 6. Once all data is copied, safely eject the Tonverk USB device from the computer. Please refer to your computer’s documentation on how to perform this procedure. 7. On your device, press [NO] to exit USB disc mode. 6.9.2 TRANSFERRING BACKED UP DATA TO TONVERK 1. Connect a USB cable between the computer and one of Tonverk’s USB ports. 2. On the device, navigate to SETTINGS > USB DISK MODE, and then press [YES]. 3. On the popup window, press [YES], but be aware that device playback will stop. 4. Tonverk’s SD card should now show up in your computer as a USB device. Click the Tonverk USB device on the computer/device to access the SD card’s contents. 5. Delete the backed-up files and folders from the SD card. (You don’t have to delete the files, but you can instead replace the files and folders; however, it will then ask you whether you want to keep or replace every file). DO NOT delete files and folders from the SD card unless you have a previously made backup of the Tonverk data available. 7. Copy the all the previously backed up files from the computer to Tonverk’s SD card to restore all Tonverk data. 8. Once all files are copied, safely eject the Tonverk USB device from the computer. Please refer to your computer’s documentation on how to perform this procedure. 9. On Tonverk. Press [NO] to exit USB disk mode. • If you only want to back up the data you have created (projects, presets, instruments, and recordings), as well as the samples you have added. Then, you only need to back up the USER folder (unless you have manually selected to store user data outside of this folder) • You can also use a smartphone or tablet to store and retrieve Tonverk data. 6.10 OS UPGRADE If a new version of the Tonverk operating system is available, it is highly recommended that you download and install the OS to keep your device up to date with the latest functionality and fixes. You can download the OS file from the Elektron website’s Support section. 6. INTERACTING WITH TONVERK 6.10.1 UPGRADING THE OS. 1. Download the OS file from the Elektron website to your computer. 2. Connect Tonverk to a computer using a USB cable attached to one of Tonverk’s USB ports. 3. On the device, navigate to SETTINGS > USB DISK MODE, and then press [YES]. 4. On the popup window, press [YES], but be aware that device playback will stop. 5. Tonverk’s SD card should now show up in your computer as a USB device. Click the Tonverk USB device on your computer to access the contents of the SD card. 6. Copy the downloaded OS file to Tonverk’s SD card and place the file at the root of the SD card’s file structure (not inside any folder). 7. Safely eject the Tonverk USB device from the computer. Please refer to your computer’s documen tation on how to perform this procedure. 8. On your device. Press [NO] to exit USB disk mode. 9. Navigate to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > OS UPGRADE, and then press [YES]. Tonverk will search through the SD card for the new OS file. Once the new OS file is detected, press [YES] to start the upgrade process. Tonverk will reboot once the upgrade is finished. Press [NO] if you wish to abort the upgrade and return to the SETTINGS menu. You can also use a smartphone or tablet to upload a new OS file to Tonverk’s SD card. 6.11 SAMPLE BROWSER The Sample browser lets you to view and access samples, wavetables and other content, stored on the SD card. Here you can also see how much sample memory is being used in the current project, shown both in megabytes and as a percentage of the available RAM. You can load up to 4 GB of samples into the project’s RAM, with a maximum of 1,023 sample slots available. Press [FUNC] + [SAMPLING] to open the Sample browser. 6.11.1 SD CARD The option lets you browse the contents on the SD card. Use [UP]/[DOWN] or LEVEL/DATA to scroll through the items. Press [YES] or [FUNC] + [RIGHT] to enter the highlighted directory. To exit a direc tory and back one step up in the directory structure, press [NO] or [FUNC] + [LEFT]. Press and hold [NO] to exit a directory and return to the top of the directory structure. Press [FUNC] + [NO], to exit the Sample browser. Press [RIGHT] to access the OPERATIONS menu. The available operations will affect the highlighted file or folder, depending on the type of the highlighted item. Press [YES] to apply the commands to the selected sample. Press [NO] or the [LEFT] arrow key to exit the menu.
