# 14.9 SYSTEM 14. SETTINGS MENU CHRO: Turning DATA ENTRY knob A changes the parameter in chromatic steps. For more information, please see “8.5.2 KEYBOARD SETUP MENU” on page 25 and “11.2 TRIG PAGE 1” on page 57. 14.8.6 LIVE REC OVERDUB When checked, allow you to add notes and locks in LIVE RECORDING mode to already placed trigs instead of replacing them. 14.8.7 PARAM LIVE REC This option lets you select whether parameter locks recorded in LIVE RECORDING mode will be added to all sequencer steps or only to steps that already contain a trig. There’s also a shortcut that lets you temporarily invert this setting. In LIVE RECORDING mode, hold [REC] while turning the knobs to reverse the behavior defined by PARAM LIVE REC for as long as [REC] is held. Once you release [REC], the behavior switches back to whatever is set by PARAM LIVE REC. 14.8.8 TRK SELECT This option lets you decide what happens when you press a trig key (when not in a recording mode) to change tracks. NORMAL Tracks are selected when pressing a [TRIG] key and plays a sound. SILENT Tracks are selected when pressing a [TRIG] key but does not play a sound. MANUAL Tracks are not selected when pressing a [TRIG] key but plays a sound. INVERTED Tracks are selected when pressing a [TRIG] key but does not play a sound. However [TRK] + [TRIG] plays the track’s sound and selects the track. In NORMAL, SILENT, and MANUAL, [TRK] + [TRIG] selects the track without playing a sound. 14.8.9 FX TRK SELECT This option sets how track selection behaves when you’re on the FX track and want to switch to another track (when not in a recording mode). NORMAL Tracks are selected when pressing a [TRIG] key and plays a sound. [TRK] + [TRIG 1–12] selects another track without playing a sound. MANUAL Tracks are not selected when pressing a [TRIG] key but plays a sound. [TRK] + [TRIG 1–12] selects another track without playing a sound. 14.9 SYSTEM The System menu contains USB CONFIG, LED INTENSITY, REMEMBER SUBPAGE, OS UPGRADE, FOR MAT +DRIVE, and CALIBRATION options for the Syntakt. 14. SETTINGS MENU 14.9.1 USB CONFIG Here you find several settings related to Overbridge and USB audio. Selecting one mode disables the other two modes. OVERBRIDGE enables Overbridge functionality. For more information, please see “7.13 OVERBRIDGE” on page 27. USB MIDI select this option If you wish to send and receive MIDI over USB. USB AUDIO/MIDI sets the Syntakt to send and receive audio and MIDI over USB. Select this option if you want to use the Syntakt together with a class compliant USB audio host. For more information, please see “7.14 CLASS COMPLIANT DEVICE” on page 27. 14.9.2 OS UPGRADE Use this menu option when you want to upgrade the Syntakt OS. To send the OS file, use our free Elek tron Transfer software. Elektron Transfer can be downloaded from the Elektron website. The device sending the OS file must be connected to the USB port of Syntakt. Please note that the Syntakt will not appear as an icon on your computer desktop. 1. Download the Syntakt OS file from the Elektron website. 2. Connect the Elektron device to the computer via USB. 3. Open the Transfer application on your computer. 4. On the Transfer CONNECTIONS page, set the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports to your Elektron device, and then press “Connect”. 5. On the Transfer DROP page, drag and drop the OS file. The OS file is then automatically trans ferred to the Elektron device and the OS update initiates. A progress bar is visible on device’s screen when receiving the OS. 6. On your device, press [YES] to confirm the OS update. When the update is done, the Syntakt will reboot. The Syntakt is always ready to receive an OS upgrade file, so you can use Transfer to drop the OS file at any time without using this menu option. 14.9.3 FORMAT +DRIVE You have the possibility to erase all content of the +Drive. Once you have made your choices using the [LEFT] or [RIGHT] arrow keys and confirmed by pressing [YES], a prompt will appear asking if you want to execute the formatting procedure. Press [YES] to proceed with the formatting. PROJECTS+SOUNDS Erases all projects and sounds. Tick/untick this box by pressing the [LEFT] or [RIGHT] arrow keys. SAMPLES Erases all samples. Tick/untick this box by pressing the [LEFT] or [RIGHT] arrow keys. 14. SETTINGS MENU 14.9.4 CALIBRATION After selecting one of the options, a popup window asking to confirm the calibration will appear. Press [YES] to proceed with the calibration. Please note that the calibration routine takes quite a while to complete. RUN CALIBRATION Calibrates the oscillators using the current working temperature. It is used to improve the tuning of the analog oscillators when operating the device in an environment where the tem perature is outside of the normal operating range (~20–25C). The unit will automatically use the most optimal calibration data set available. The device can hold up to two extra sets of user calibration data. Before calibrating your unit, leave it on for a few hours to stabilize the internal temperature. FACTORY RESTORE Restores the calibration data to the same state as it was when it was calibrated during production. 15. STARTUP MENU 15. STARTUP MENU To access this menu, hold down the [FUNC] key while powering up the Syntakt. From here you can perform a variety of tasks. To choose the different alternatives, press the corresponding [TRIG] key. 15.1 TEST MODE To enter this mode, press the [TRIG 1] key. For testing purposes, a short sound is heard through all outputs of the unit. If you have any trouble with your Syntakt and suspect it may be due to a hardware problem, perform this self-test. The [UP] and [DOWN] keys can be used to scroll through the test log. A fully functional device should not report any errors. If it does report an error, please contact Elektron support or the retailer that you bought your Syntakt from. 15.2 EMPTY RESET To perform this operation, press the [TRIG 2] key. All patterns and sounds will be erased. The data on the +Drive remains intact. 15.3 FACTORY RESET When performing a factory reset on the Syntakt, it will overwrite and re-initialize the active RAM project (including all pattern and global data). The +Drive project slot 1 will be overwritten and re-initialized with factory preset patterns, sounds and settings. Sound banks A–E will be overwritten with the factory sounds. If you wish to keep the active project, remember to save it to a +Drive project slot higher than 1 before you perform a factory reset. To perform a factory reset, press the [TRIG 3] key. 15.4 OS UPGRADE Use this menu option if you for some reason cant upgrade the Syntakt OS using the standard procedure in the SYSTEM menu. To send the OS file, use our free Elektron Transfer software. The Elektron Transfer can be downloaded from the Elektron website. 1. Download the Syntakt OS file from the Elektron website. 2. Connect the Syntakt’s MIDI IN port to the MIDI OUT port of the computer’s MIDI interface. 3. Hold down the [FUNC] key while powering on Syntakt. This takes you to the STARTUP menu. 4. Press the [TRIG 4] key to enter OS UPGRADE mode. 5. Open the Transfer application on your computer. On the Transfer CONNECTION page, click “go to the SYSEX TRANSFER page”. 6. On the SYSEX TRANSFER page, click “OS Upgrade via device startup menu”, and then follow the on- screen instructions. When the update is done, the Syntakt will reboot. USB MIDI transfer is not possible when upgrading the OS from the STARTUP menu. 15.5 EXIT Press the [TRIG 5] key to exit the STARTUP menu.
